Anger is a strong response which occurs when events or actions of other people don’t go our way.
When we read about the widespread abuse, bullying, rape or murder that has plagued us, it invariably started with unchecked anger. Anger towards others, themselves or life. It is a seed that propagates as easy, self-indulgent behaviour, slowly manifesting into actions beyond control.
At its germination, it can be regarded as childish, immature behaviour but if watered well with lack of self-awareness and a privileged narrative, it can unleash irreparable hurt.
Although a normal emotion, there is also nothing positive about it. No matter what your reasons are.
It is never an expression of love.
It is never a teaching tool.
Will this matter in a year’s time?
Ask yourself if the situation is even worth getting angry about it. Strong responses require a significant part of our finite mental energy. Rational behaviours do not. Take a second to predict if the situation will matter or even be remembered in a year’s time?
Will you remember the glass your child broke a year from now?
Will you care that your partner arrived late for…
