As a doctor, I believe you when you say that you know your body much better than doctors ever could. I do not, however agree, with the idea that medical communities do not have enough internal auditing. If you ever find yourself in a weekly mortality and morbidity meetings, daily operation audits or litigation cases, you will witness the intense scrutiny doctors and other health professionals deal with and the profound effect it has on their well-being. You are also right that other industries look at themselves more deeply but they don’t deal with life and death on a daily basis.
I work in Australia where universal healthcare is mainstream. However I am also glad for private healthcare where patients have the freedom to chose doctors (who make statistics more palatable and less alarming to you as the patient) and vice-versa.
Disease and healthcare unfortunately cannot be sugar-coated.
